Why do we need to hire an architect to design a building?

Does a building mean just four walls? Does it feel good to build the outer shell and then beautify it later? Does it feel good to keep firefighting problems occurring onsite because of the lack of overall visualization about the project? If you said no, then read on. A building is not just four walls built together but is a mixture of well-integrated spaces. Each client would have a thought behind constructing a project and definitely would want to add meaning to the space that is being built, therefore, approaching an architect would help with turning the dream vision behind the project into reality.

"Mane katti nodu maduve madi nodu", is a well-known proverb that exists in Kannada, it

means 'There isn't anything more challenging than building a house or conducting a marriage'. Here, this proverb hints at the fact that building a house has been a tedious process and not a cakewalk since our ancestral time. We can see in many of our ancestral houses, that every mud brick placed had a lot of meaning, and every space was well thought out in terms of spatial utilisation.

Setting out plan

An architect creates a space that captivates the vision and dreams of the client. Keeping

modern building technologies in mind, an architect designs with a keen eye for detail, making sure every aspect of the project serves its utilitarian purposes and is aesthetic at the same time. For an architect, the process before the building hits the ground is a cycle that helps add most of the value to the project. Meeting clients, understanding their requirements, and developing the concepts, design, and details are a few of the key phases. An architect would help you visualise the project with the help of drawings, and physical models, and also with the help of software, 3D visualisations, and walkthroughs can be generated which show realistic views of the project much before the project starts on site.

Say a family is looking forward to building a house, and, each family would have a dream of

their own home. The transition of a house becoming a home is fulfilled by an architect, where it is not a four-walled structure but a well-crafted space where one lives for years coming, and to create new memories amalgamated with memories from the past that one wants to cherish. As they hire an architect, the architect transforms this dream by understanding the client's needs and wants. An Architect does not merely draft out what a client tells, but, they understand the ideology behind the client's needs and wants, analyse the possibilities, and then guide them with solutions.

Why do we need to hire an architect to design a building? An architect is someone who analyses the several layers of the project, superimposes them, and gives life to the space. Understanding layers means, from the positioning of a switchboard, sanitary ware, drains, etc, each item a house comprises is thought off and is given in the drawings. And, these drawings are carried to the site, where the architect finalizes the positions in real-time. This eye for detail will solve a lot of issues that one would face at a later stage. For understanding, say a client is an avid reader and wants to have a reading nook on his balcony, so this detail can be captured as an experience and necessary space and lighting can be provided in the design to make a home and create a personal and tailored experience. Like how people get their dresses designed to fit their taste, lifestyle, size, etc, a home is also tailor-made by an architect to suit their liking, lifestyle, and other factors of the client.

Now considering other projects like schools, colleges, offices, flagship stores, and any other

complexes, an architect helps the client in handling larger scale projects by streamlining the

suggestions from different consultants and analysing all the layers from macro to micro

levels. For example, at a master plan level several factors like electrical, plumbing, sewerage lines, etc. should function in line with each other. These layers are overlaid and cross-checked by the architect, hence, they streamline any overlaps, which if not taken care of during design development stages, will create trouble on site. Hence, the architects are quoted as the master builder.

Apart from creating a personalised design for a client an architect also adds value in other

aspects like enhancing spatial quality, by considering factors like natural light, wind direction, utilitarian aspects, etc. Considering site conditions becomes very important to approaching any project, there may be natural features, vegetation, contours, etc on the site. Also, the orientation of a building is decided considering the site conditions, and the sun's path which will affect the efficiency of spatial quality. All these aspects have to be considered before jumping into design.

We, Rooted Realm Architects, with a vision to capture the rooted values and ideologies of the client, ensure designing spaces with utmost attention, and an eye for detail. We aim to

provide satisfaction to clients by adding value to their projects and making them well-crafted masterpieces.
